Subject:Looking for actors
Posted by:lindschan.
Time:6:08 pm.
Hi guys! I'm a Digital Film freshie who is in desperate need of TWO actors for my final project.

I have to film one scene from a 3-page script I have written. It deals with a middle-aged Minister, Bob, breaking off his affair with a younger man named Jack. Bob's wife has found out about this little tryst and threatens him with telling his entire church that he's a homosexual if he doesn't end his relationship with Jack -now-.

Filming will take place (TENTATIVELY) on Friday, April 25th, at around 4 PM. It won't take more than six hours. I will take whoever wants to do it, regardless of gender, age, or experience. This final project is focused on learning how to set up shots, not on making the actual movie.

There are a few catches: You can't leave the set for the entire time we're filming. I also can't pay you, it has to be done for free. And, the biggest catch of all: You must be willing to KISS and be touchy-feely with your acting opposite. Despite the script calling for a homosexual couple, I am willing to make this hetero for the time being. ;)

The advantage of this? You get to freshen up on your acting skills, eat free snacks, see how the filming process works, and get to know the lovely Digital Film student body and faculty.

You can respond by commenting on this post or e-mailing me at lbatdorf AT ringling DOT edu. Please be quick about it.

Thanks a ton in advance!

ALL ARTISTS MUST READ THIS:

April 10, 2008
By Mark Simon

As you know, I usually handle the subjects in my articles with a sense of humor. That is not the case this month. I find nothing funny about the new Orphan Works legislation that is before Congress.

In fact, it PISSES ME OFF!

As an artist, you have to read this article or you could lose everything you've ever created!

An Orphaned Work is any creative work of art where the artist or copyright owner has released their copyright, whether on purpose, by passage of time, or by lack of proper registration. In the same way that an orphaned child loses the protection of his or her parents, your creative work can become an orphan for others to use without your permission.

If you don't like to read long articles, you will miss incredibly important information that will affect the rest of your career as an artist. You should at least skip to the end to find the link for a fantastic interview with the Illustrators' Partnership about how you are about to lose ownership of your own artwork.

Currently, you don't have to register your artwork to own the copyright. You own a copyright as soon as you create something. International law also supports this. Right now, registration allows you to sue for damages, in addition to fair value.

What makes me so MAD about this new legislation is that it legalizes THEFT! The only people who benefit from this are those who want to make use of our creative works without paying for them and large companies who will run the new private copyright registries.

These registries are companies that you would be forced to pay in order to register every single image, photo, sketch or creative work.

It is currently against international law to coerce people to register their work for copyright because there are so many inherent problems with it. But because big business can push through laws in the United States, our country is about to break with the rest of the world, again, and take your rights away.

With the tens of millions of photos and pieces of artwork created each year, the bounty for forcing everyone to pay a registration fee would be enormous. We lose our rights and our creations, and someone else makes money at our expense.

This includes every sketch, painting, photo, sculpture, drawing, video, song and every other type of creative endeavor. All of it is at risk!

If the Orphan Works legislation passes, you and I and all creatives will lose virtually all the rights to not only our future work but to everything we've created over the past 34 years, unless we register it with the new, untested and privately run (by the friends and cronies of the U.S. government) registries. Even then, there is no guarantee that someone wishing to steal your personal creations won't successfully call your work an orphan work, and then legally use it for free.

In short, if Congress passes this law, YOU WILL LOSE THE RIGHT TO MAKE MONEY FROM YOUR OWN CREATIONS!

Why is this allowed to happen? APATHY and MONEY.

Artists have apathy and corporations have money.

We need to be heard in order to protect our incomes, our creations and our careers. GET OFF YOUR ASS!

Thanks so much for everyone's advice and help, everything was found. And as for other people who have lost packages there should be some helpful info in the last reply! Your stuff could be in there too. It's kind of an obscure place.

Last week I was interviewed by award winning freelance photographer Cheryl Senter. Cheryl, lives to document people and their passion. She's done tons of amazing audio slide shows but this is her first video and I'm flattered to be chosen. She was the most warming personality I've been around in ages. Cheryl, found me through a mutual friend on iam.bmezine.com and sent me an e-mail.

To borrow the cliche, it was a surreal experience and of course a little weird seeing/hearing myself in motion. Nonetheless I think she did a great job capturing where i am in my life right now.

You can find other examples of Cheryl Senter's photography on her website fateye.com.

September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day. I want to invite you guys to check out the links below. There's a ton of great info, and things happening around the world. Alarming to think that there are places in the world where suicide is the leading cause of death for people under the age of 15:

And so, the falling giraffedog returns.
My story is... long and unweildy, but you could call me a returning Freshman - Freshman 2.0, if you will.
I was a student, briefly, at Ringling in the Fall of 2005, now I'm coming back for the Fall of 2007. I'm arriving August 14th, and could use a ride from the airport... or else I'm taking a taxi.

Boo, taxi, boo.

Subject:Why Ringling?
Posted by:rain_of_peace.
Time:6:09 pm.
Mood: contemplative.
Okay, here is my situation.

I recently moved to Atlanta, GA in order to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta. My mom and her husband left to different states in order to be here and support me. We gave up everything so that we could start over. Now that we're here, AI pretty much screwed us over and I refused to attend to their school. I am now looking at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) since they have a campus here in Atlanta, as well as Ringling. SCAD has a lot to offer, 3rd in the nation with their Animation program, and a campus location in France, etc. However, I want to look at other schools and Ringling is one of them. The student work looks great, it's in Florida so I assumed that it's a diverse and laid-back community with a lot to do, which is what I'm looking for.

I need to make a decision ASAP and find more information about Ringling as well as the area. So if anyone could please fill me in and let me know what it's like to be a student there, I would really appreciate it. Thank you and take care.

Posted by:jimmycalhoun.

Hey guys, ringling's one of my top choices and i will most likely be going there this fall. I'd like to know about the atmosphere in sarasota and on campus. I love art and it'll will take up a fair amount of my time, but i also like to kick back. i like partying and want to know if ringling is a relatively party campus. What do you guys do on the weekends? are there bars, parties, lounges, etc. It's not my only concern but it's college after all, and it definitely matters to me. Feedbacks appreciated!

Greetings!

My roomates and I are currently looking for a fourth roomate. We'll be junior CA's next year, but we'll take anyone as long as they don't smoke, drink obsessively, and don't mind that fact that we're up in the wee hours of the morning cooking dinner after the labs close ^_^. If youre a freshman going into sophomore year, that's fine, we're not picky. We're easy to get along with, and usually live in the labs.

If you're curious who we are you can facebook us, I'm Kendra Vander Vliet, my other roomates are Dawn Rivers, and Cynthia Waller.

We're hoping to get a spot in the Bayou Village apartments again. Please feel free to contact me, Kendra, at kvvliet1@ringling.edu, or Dawn at drivers@ringling.edu, if you're interested.
